Researchers develop ORION-FISH, a new imaging technique, here at the LSP

Cancer Discovery | May 28, 2026

This publication - a collaboration between numerous LSP members - works to better understand how chromosomal copy-number alterations, combined with protein-defined cell states in intact tissue, improves understanding of early clonal evolution and microenvironmental interactions in cancer. The team developed ORION-FISH, which integrates high-plex tissue imaging with a morphology-preserving DNA-FISH workflow and single-cell registration, allowing for measurements more aligned with clinical FISH. ORION-FISH will provide researchers the opportunity for more in-depth review of samples, enabling context-aware interrogation of early copy-number diversification at single-cell resolution.
