Advancing strategies to combat BRCA-linked cancer threats

Pulse | Spring 2025

Harvard Medical School researchers Peter Sorger and Sandro Santagata are leading two projects aimed at improving early diagnosis and preventive therapies for individuals with BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations. These mutations significantly raise the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers. Backed by $2 million from the Gray Foundation, their teams are using spatial transcriptomics, multiplexed imaging, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to study how breast and ovarian cancers develop. Together, they are also leading the effort to build the Gray BRCA Pre-Cancer Atlas, a digital resource integrating molecular and imaging data on early-stage cancers.
